Road permits
No drive? The skip can go on the road.
Any skip up to 12 yards can stand on the street with a council permit. We apply for it, pay the fee and pass it on at cost — £48 at the moment — and we bring the lights and cones.
From booking to a lit skip on the street
-
You tell us where
The address, and where on the road you’d like it. A photo from the pavement saves a site visit.
-
We apply
We send the application to the council the same day and pay the fee. It goes on your booking at cost: currently £48.
-
The council checks it
Usually 3 working days. They make sure it won’t block a junction, a bus stop, a drop kerb or a drain.
-
It goes out lit
Reflective markings, four cones and night lamps, set out by the driver and checked on every visit.
The rules while it’s there
- Fourteen days per permit. We renew it before it runs out if your job overruns.
- 12 yards and under. Roll-on containers can’t stand on the public road.
- Nothing beside it. Waste stacked on the pavement can void the permit.
- Lights stay on. Please don’t move the lamps or cones; ring us if one fails.
- Drive or land needs no permit. Shared drives and private roads can go either way — send a photo.
Permits
When do I need a permit?
Whenever any part of the skip sits on the public road or pavement. On your own drive or land you do not need one.
Who applies for it?
We do. You tell us the address and where on the road you want it; we apply to the council, pay the fee and pass it on at cost with no mark-up.
How long does a permit last?
Normally fourteen days. If you need longer, we renew it for you before it runs out.
Do road skips need lights?
Yes. Every road skip goes out with reflective markings, four cones and night lamps, which we supply and check. Please don’t move them.
Tell us the street, we’ll do the rest
Book now and the delivery date you get already allows for the permit.
